About

My name's Matt Morton and I’ve been interested in old and interesting things for as long as I can remember.

It's in the genes, I blame my mum.

She's always had a garage full of old stuff that overflowed into the house. Her mum and dad were the same too.

Even when I studied music in London in the late 80s and early 90s, I had books on antiques on the shelf, subscribed to the Antique Roadshow magazine, and spent hours in antique shops, even though I couldn't afford to buy much. I also used to sell at local village hall antique fairs.

In Feb 2021 I was made redundant from a digital agency, hopefully a blessing in disguise.

So, I finally decided to put those genes to good use - sourcing antiques to sell and learning about sympathetic restoration.

I buy what I like, which ranges from Georgian furniture to old advertising signs to vintage lamps.

I tend to go for pieces with that little something extra. It might be the patina or the form and design, just something that draws you in a bit more. Makes you look twice.

I'm now based just outside Ballyhaunis in County Mayo, Ireland.

Since moving to Mayo in January 2024 I've mostly just been doing restoration work, but I'm just starting to look around again for items to buy now that I'm more used to the antiques market over here.

Cheers,

Matt
