A very nice untouched French oak 'nuns' chair from the 1600s.
It has peg and tenon joints throughout, the distinctive rectangular framed back with nice wavy sections, along with wonderful turned onion feet and reeded stretchers.
Shorter in height than later chairs - as expected for this style of chair - so probably better for decorative use these days, it would look great in a bedroom or bathroom.
Some slight movement in the chair due to wood shrinkage as you'd expect in an untouched example, but still sturdy and strong. An old split to the back left leg that has been historically well-repaired with pegs so is solid. Front right foot has losses at the bottom from long-gone woodworm and damp, which I've left as is. See photos for details.
Great colour and look, with lovely crusty patination to the seat.
