This classic oak bookcase dates from the 1930s/40s (check out the art deco feet).

Made by Globe Wernicke, originally for solicitors and barristers, these bookcases have become real design classics.

This bookcase features glazed doors on hinges that open upwards and a stacking, modular design comprising of two tiers and top which can be taken apart, so it's very easy to move around. As it has two shelves rather than three or four, the top is the perfect height to use for lamps, ornaments, flowers, keys and wallets, etc.

Globe Wernicke bookcases are now highly sort after, suiting a country house look or mid-century modern decor, for example. Great for books, showing off your treasures, drinks and glasses, and work well in most rooms, e.g. hallway, lounge, office, bedroom, bathroom, etc.

This superb original Globe Wernicke was made for James Phillips & Sons Ltd of Union Street, Bristol and still has their original label on the back of the bookcase along with old chalk-written 'J Phillips'. The Globe Wernicke logos are still on the internal back wall of each section, the original handles are present and the glass is intact.

It is in excellent condition for its age and shows just the expected wear and tear.
