A very nice George III mahogany tray top night or bedside table, with tambour shutter (typical of the late 18th century), over a drawer with original handle and the whole raised on moulded square legs.
Originally, the drawer would have pulled out, splitting the front legs to form a seat with a toilet bowl within. As is often the case, this has been adapted, at some early point in its life, into a much more useful drawer.
Would work well as a bathroom cabinet too.
Great proportions, superb deep color and patina, with well-figured grain all over.
A small loss to one of the tray top corners, slight shrinkage to the top surface resulting in a very small gap along the front and a slight surface split but nothing of note, just mentioned for transparency - see photos for details.
A fine example in very good original condition for its age.
