A superb Sussex chair from the late 19th or early 20th century.

It used to have rush seating, now recently upholstered in Sanderson's wonderfully vibrant Canteloupe velvet fabric.

Stamped 'T(?) Cockerell' underneath.

(A quick Google shows there was a Sir Sydney Cockerell (1867-1962), who was director of the Fitzwilliam Museum in Cambridge and at one point acted as private secretary to William Morris. He had a brother called Theodore Cockerell.)

Very good condition throughout, sturdy, no movement, just the expected wear and tear. Please see photos.

Width of seat front: 51.5cm
Front of seat to back: 44cm
Seat height: 44cm
Overall height: 79.5cm
